Adjudicating Competitions

EDWARD GOATER is a conductor, tenor & teacher with an international career. He has a degree in Environmental Science, is a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Edward has performed all over the world both as a soloist and as a member of the acclaimed BBC Singers. He has worked alongside the finest musicians in the world including Sir Roger Norrington, Pierre Boulez, David Hill, Daniel Barenboim and Sir Simon Rattle. In 2008 he appeared with Bryn Terfel in The Last Night Of The Proms, and has twice been soloist for the European Broadcast Union’s evening concert broadcast. 

He has recorded for Naxos, Signum, Deutsche Grammophon, the BBC and other leading labels, as well as appearing on TV and Radio many times. In 2008 international organist and composer David Briggs wrote the song-cycle Dreamworld for Edward, and more recently in 2017 composer Paul Drayton wrote the song-cycle One Night for Edward. 

As a conductor Edward has conducted or chorus-mastered a great many ensembles & choirs as a visiting artist. He is former Director of Somerset Choral Society, former Associate Conductor of Berkshire Youth Choir, and is currently Musical Director of Taunton Choral Society and the Military Wives Choir foundation, Taunton. He has a busy schedule of concerts and workshop events throughout the year.

He has written articles for the BBC and other publications, as well as recorded interviews for TV, radio and print. Edward teaches at Wells Cathedral School, and his educational work has taken him all over the world; giving workshops in singing and conducting at many events and institutions. - highlights include the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Marlborough College, Malaysia, and the BBC Ten Pieces Project. 

He regularly gives talks at his concerts on many subjects, and his expertise and communication skills makes him a popular adjudicator in competitions across the country. His academic interests are centred around the aesthetics and psychology of music.
